Let me share you this story:
My time as Dean of the College of Business Administration at Divine Mercy College has been a whirlwind of challenges and triumphs. It's not just about overseeing budgets and curriculum; it's about shaping the future of hundreds of young professionals. One particularly vivid memory involves the launch of our new data analytics program.
Initially, securing the necessary funding proved incredibly difficult. We faced stiff competition for resources within the university, and the initial proposal was rejected. Instead of giving up, I didn't just resubmit the proposal; I completely re-imagined it. I spent weeks researching industry trends, speaking with local businesses about their hiring needs, and even shadowing data analysts to understand the practical skills gap in the market.
Armed with this new data, I crafted a compelling narrative that went beyond just numbers. I highlighted the program's potential to address a critical need in the regional economy, creating a pipeline of highly skilled graduates for local employers. I even secured letters of support from several companies promising internships and potential job placements for our graduates. This revised proposal resonated deeply with the university's leadership, and the funding was approved.
Launching the program wasn't without its hurdles. We faced unexpected technical difficulties with the software, and securing qualified instructors was more challenging than anticipated. But through collaborative problem-solving with faculty, staff, and technology specialists, we found innovative solutions. We even leveraged online resources and developed a robust mentorship program to support our instructors.
The program's success has been incredibly rewarding. We've seen a surge in applications, high student satisfaction rates, and most importantly, nearly 100% placement of our graduates within six months of graduation. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability, the power of storytelling, and the value of collaboration in achieving seemingly impossible goals. It also reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education and the vital role of a Dean in fostering a thriving and relevant academic environment.
Being a Dean wasn't just about ticking boxes; it was about creating a legacy.
